Leadership Academy delivers to our Pyramid

February 18, 2011 in Leadership & Volunteering by C Knowland

In October 2009, the new additions to the Campsmount Leadership Academy set up a new programme to assist with the delivery of the out of school hours PE programme that had been set up in the pyramid family of schools.

Students selected which clubs they would like to assist at and a timetable was designed for them to go in and deliver these activities to students ranging from Year 1 through to Year 6. All students have been completing either their Level 1 in sport or dance and their level 2 in community sport, they have used skills learnt from these sessions to assist staff in delivering these sessions.

Over the months the students have grown in their confidence and ability to deliver and at times the students have been delivering parts of sessions, under the guidance of the Primary School Staff.  A great success has been the role of dance leaders as they have played a key part in preparing their teams of students at each of the Junior Schools in preparation for the Campsmount Dance Show later in the year.

Again this is another great step in the right direction for our pyramid in taking Leadership and Volunteering forward!

Leadership Academy Update 2009

February 18, 2011 in Leadership & Volunteering by C Knowland

Academy 2010In September 2009, the Campsmount Leadership Academy enrolled new students for the up and coming academic year and also took forward those who had stayed on at school to continue as leaders.

The students all received new kit, which they had gained through their youth bank trust bid being successful and opted for the sports they would like to specialise in. As a new venture this year students were also given the opportunity to opt into working in our feeder schools, either in the juniors or infants for the year, developing a greater link within the Campsmount Pyramid of schools.

Students were issued with a booklet to monitor their progress and use as a record of achievement to log the hours they deliver, courses they attend and training days they complete. This is a fantastic opportunity to achieve various qualifications in different sports and experience a high level of leadership and volunteering skills.

All students must complete their level 1 in either sports leaders or dance leaders and actively use these qualifications by leading at school. On top of this those students who work hard and attend a high percentage of clubs and practices will be given an opportunity to gain level 1 qualification’s in their specialist sport.

Campsmount Leadership Academy

February 18, 2011 in Leadership & Volunteering by C Knowland

Over the course of September,  one of the Flying High Partnership Community Coaches and I worked together to set up the new Leadership Academy for Campsmount Technology College.

Application forms and job descriptions were handed out to students who were interested in applying for a position within the academy from Years 11-13. On Friday 3rd October interviews took place and 24 students attended to try to gain a position within the academy, however students were accepted at different levels.

The main aim of the academy is to develop leadership and volunteering skills of students at Campsmount, but also we are hoping this delivery will impact on the younger students and increase participation in out of school hours learning. We are going to apply for funding to get Academy uniform and look at developing a mentoring scheme for training our volunteers in their specified area of delivery.

The Leadership Academy team are now ready to go and keen to develop their leadership skills whilst being part of the Academy. the Campsmount Academy consists of the Academy Manager overseeing the programme to start with being me, then the students working underneath this. We have a Leadership Co-ordinator Katie Deere, a Vice-Leadership Co-ordinator Ben Webb and 4 Team Leaders for each chosen priority sport who are Jade Storer for Netball, Kyle Handley for Football, Linda Maxfield for Dance and Ben Webb for Rugby. Then working underneath each team we have got various leaders, assistant leaders and trainees, as well 2 Marketing and Publishing Co-ordinators.

The team are going to meet on a regular basis to look at how they can not only develop PE & Sport in Campsmount, but also within our Pyramid, working within the feeder schools as well so watch this space!!!
