The Campsmount Sports Pyramid belongs to the Flying High School Sports Partnership which was set up in 2004. This is one of the School Sports Partnerships within Doncaster, the other being Get Active. Our Sports Partnership fits within the Rossington Sports Colleges remit.

Within our Pyramid we have 1 Secondary School being Campsmount Technology College, 2 Junior Schools, which are Askern Spa Juniors and Norton Juniors and 3 Infant Schools, which are Askern Moss Road, Askern Littlemoor and Norton Infants.

The main aim of the School Sports Partnership is to develop the sporting provision for people between the ages of 5-19 years and to provide sporting opportunities for young people to participate within 5 hours of PE, School Sport and Physical Activity within a week (The 5 Hour Offer). This is the governments National PE & School Sport Strategy for 2008-2011, which is leading to the Olympic Legacy of 2012.

The PE & School Sports Strategy consists of developing participation in various areas within curriculum time and out of school hours learning. Not only developing students as a performer but also as a coach and developing their leadership and volunteering opportunities.

Over the last 2 years, we have seen lots of new initiatives take off within the Pyramid, which have had a direct impact on increasing participation and also Intra and Inter competitive opportunities. Some of these include the setting up of the Campsmount Leadership Academy, the introduction of Sports Leader, Community Sports Leader and Level 1 Dance Leader Courses, non traditional sports being introduced on the curriculum like Kayaking and Boxercise, Campsmount  Street Dance and Cheerleading Clubs being set up and the annual dance show now involving all Years from 5 – 11, incorporating the link between the Feeder Schools and Campsmount.

On top of this School/Club Links have been developed with local clubs and we have also received various funding bids from the Youth Bank Trust to develop the Leadership Academy and Extended Services to introduce a Trampolining Club.

As a pyramid out of school hours learning opportunities have been developed, more Inter School competitions have taken place and also lots of festivals have been introduced for the year. The Playground Leaders and Walk Leaders schemes have both been introduced into the Feeder Schools, developing leadership skills there as well and with the new Mini Leaders Programme rolling out to all KS1 students in the Autumn Term 2010, this is now an exciting time for Leadership across our pyramid.

We now have two young sports ambassadors who are currently working hard to develop PE and School Sport across our Pyramid, these being Corey Roper and Abigayle Roberts and our latest exciting news is that Abigayle Roberts has now been selected to be a member of the Doncaster Gold Sports Ambassadors Programme, placing Campsmount as one of the leading schools in Doncaster.

The work taking place is developing all of the time and this is definitely having a positive impact on students sporting experiences throughout their time at Campsmount Technology College. This is a fantastic pyramid for students to be part of and I feel extremely proud to lead and develop such a hardworking Pyramid.
