Campsmount’s Legacy

May 17, 2013 in Front Page News, Head Teacher's Blog, Parents, Staff, Students, Uncategorized by Mr Sprakes

It’s that time of year again when examinations loom and levels of anxiety rise for students, staff and parents. The culmination of five years at secondary school suddenly becomes a finite reality as courses come to an end, revision sessions intensify and examinations begin. This is a difficult time for everyone involved as we approach the beginning of the end of GCSE and A level studies and it is a stressful one, too. Examinations are important, of course, they open doors to opportunity and I commend the students who have studied hard, regardless of ability, as they will reap the rewards of this endeavour when they receive those all important results in August.

We must remember, however, that this is just a stage in the learning journey, a signpost of skills and knowledge acquired but it is not an end point, nor is it definitive. It could be argued that the real measure of success is not the grades that are achieved in the summer but how far we have helped, as educators, to embed a love of learning in our students so that they will continue to be open to new experiences, actively seek out fresh challenges and be eager to develop both existing and yet to be discovered skills. If every student leaves with a determination to persist in the pursuit of knowledge, to continually question and search for meaning then we have succeeded in cultivating a sense of wonder in the world and its infinite possibilities. No GCSE grade or level of progress can measure a lasting legacy such as this. I hope that all of our students, as well as achieving examination success, take with them from Campsmount a life long love of learning. Best of luck and best wishes. Andy Sprakes.

Boys Football Finals Results

May 6, 2013 in Front Page News, Parents, PE Fixtures, Students by G Faulkner

Year 7 Trophy

Campsmount’s Year 7 boys football team came out on top in the recent DSFA final held at Balby Carr Sports College. In a very close and hard fought game they narrowly beat Balby Carr by 4 goals to 3 to earn themselves the coveted trophy. Well done to, not only all the boys in the final but, everyone who played a part during the season.

Our Year 8 team were not as sucessfull as the year 7′s running out second best to Balby Carr. It was a game of two halves for Campsmount with Balby dominating the first half and creating more chances. However a much improved performance in the second half by Campsmount showed signs of how the year 8′s had earned their place in the final. Again well done to all the players who played in the final as well as everyone who has represented the team at some point during the season.

As a result of the performances of all our teams this year we have earned promotion to the premiership  - we look forward to some challenging games next season.

Campsmount Boy’s Football End of Season Update

April 28, 2013 in Extra Curricular Activities, Front Page News, Parents, Students by G Faulkner

Congratulations to all the boys who have represented Campsmount in the Doncaster Schools’ Football Associations league this season.  It has been an excellent season for all our teams and we’ve followed in Doncaster Rovers’ footsteps of being promoted.

Year 7 and Year 8 are our highest placed teams and have made it to the finals night which is being hosted by Balby Carr Community Sports College on Tuesday 30th April 2013.

Year 7 had a very impressive season finishing with a 100% winning streak.

Year 8 only lost one game all season and finished in 2nd place.

Unfortunately our Year 9 team missed out on a place in the final, losing out to Balby Carr on the Goals scored rule (after goal difference was the same) and finished in 3rd place.

Our year 10 team finished a credible 4th, missing out on 2nd place by 2 points in what proved to be a very close league.

Any parents wishing to support the boys in the finals at Balby Carr Community Sports College are more than welcome (no entrance fee). Kick off is scheduled for 16:00 and spectators have been asked not to arrive before 15:30. We have been asked that spectators please use the 3G car park rather than the main school car park. The presentation of trophies is scheduled for 17:45. There will be a refreshments kiosk available for supporters.

I would also like to take this opportunity to  thank all the staff and 6th form students involved in the smooth running our football teams this year for their time and continued commitment.

Mr G Faulkner

Year 9 AC Day – Hull University ACE Visit

April 18, 2013 in Front Page News, Parents, Students by K Elmes

On Wednesday 17th April 2013 many of our Year 9 Students visited Hull University on one of their ACE Days. Campsmount Students worked with Hull University Student Ambassadors to find information out about University, for example:

  • What do I need to get into University?
  • Where can I study?
  • What course can I study?
  • Apart from Lectures and seminars what else can I expect?
  • What are societies?

The students had a thoroughly enjoyable and very informative day. As always our student’s behaviour was exemplary and a credit to both Campsmount and the Students’ Parents.  We would also like to thank the Staff and Ambassadors at Hull University for such a fantastic experience.

Cala Llevado Spain 2013 – Meeting Reminder

March 18, 2013 in Parents, Students by We are Campsmount

We will be having an important information evening for our upcoming trip to Spain. The purpose of the evening is for students and parents/carers to receive important information and guidance regarding the trip.

The information evening will take place on Tuesday 19th March @ 18:00 in the assembly hall.

It is vital that everybody attends. If for any reason your parent/carer cannot attend then please see Mr. Gualda as a priority.

We will shortly be issuing students with medical consent forms for the trip. If these could be filled in asap and either handed in at the pastorial office or brought to the meeting, that would be much apprieciated.

Also a big thank you to all parents for keeping up with your regular payments, it has made my job of dealing with Acorn, and our Finance Manager a lot easier. A quick reminder that the final balances need to be paid by the begining of April.

Many Thanks
A. Gualda, Trip Organiser.

Red Nose Day at Campsmount 2013

March 14, 2013 in Front Page News, Head Teacher's Blog, Parents, Staff, Students, Uncategorized by Mr Sprakes

On Friday 15 March, Campsmount will be supporting Red Nose Day by hosting a number of fund-raising activities in school. Accordingly, Friday will be a non-uniform day and students are encouraged to wear something red (please no extreme hair colours or make-up!). A voluntary contribution of £1 is requested to support this worthwhile charity and I hope students enjoy the day and some of the activities hosted by the Sixth Form at lunchtime. The only question that remains is….Will 10CLF be able to keep quiet for the day as part of their sponsored silence fund-raiser????
