Year 9 AC Day – Hull University ACE Visit
April 18, 2013 in Front Page News, Parents, Students by K Elmes
On Wednesday 17th April 2013 many of our Year 9 Students visited Hull University on one of their ACE Days. Campsmount Students worked with Hull University Student Ambassadors to find information out about University, for example:
- What do I need to get into University?
- Where can I study?
- What course can I study?
- Apart from Lectures and seminars what else can I expect?
- What are societies?
The students had a thoroughly enjoyable and very informative day. As always our student’s behaviour was exemplary and a credit to both Campsmount and the Students’ Parents. We would also like to thank the Staff and Ambassadors at Hull University for such a fantastic experience.
Eurovision Dance Contest 2013
April 16, 2013 in Campsmount School Sports Co-ordinator, Front Page News, OSHL Clubs by C Knowland
This year’s dance show took place on Wednesday 20th of March and was the biggest and best we have seen at Campsmount. It was the first event to be showcased in our new school building and using our newly purchased staging and lighting system. We sold out all tickets within a week of them going on sale and we had a record high 103 performers taking part. The night was a great success with some amazing dance being showcased from Campsmount students and our fantastic junior schools; Norton Juniors and Askern Spa Juniors. This year saw Kirk Smeaton also taking part for the first time and their dance was choreographed to a high standard, showing they are worthy participants in this now prestigious event.
The theme of the evening was Musicals and we had some fantastic routines showing a great interpretation of this theme. With dances from Musicals like Annie, Westside Story, A Chorus Line and Fame just to name a few. The evening finished with an amazing closing performance including all the Campsmount girls doing Dirty Dancing. In the end it was an extremely close competition and it went down to the last judge to decide the winning country. It was a battle between the Campsmount girls performing to Cats representing the United Kingdom and Norton Juniors performing to Lion King representing Turkey. However for the second year running Norton Juniors stole the show and they beat Campsmount by 4 points to take the title again. They had obviously worked extremely hard alongside their choreographer Bekki Dyas to produce a cute number and their costumes were amazing.
Dance at Campsmount and in our feeder schools grows year on year. This is largely down to the commitment of the students and teachers involved as well as our amazing dance teacher Bekki Dyas who never fails to inspire the students with creative and challenging dance routines. We now have extremely successful street dance and cheerleading clubs that have high numbers of representation across the school years.
The winning dance group from Norton Juniors will now enjoy a fantastic day out at Doncaster College, later in the year. The children will take part in three very different dance sessions, where they will be taught dance techniques within that genre of dance to then perform at the end of the session.
A big thank you must go to all staff who took part on the night and all the staff and students behind the scenes who worked extremely hard to make this year’s Eurovision Dance Contest the best one yet, where the quality of the routines was immense.
