Y11 Assembly: ‘Are you being selfish enough’?

January 28, 2012 in Front Page News, Parents, Students by Mr Portman

Campsmount’s ‘Maximising Y11 Achievement’ project was launched with an assembly that focused on the question: ‘Y11 – Are you being selfish enough?’. This focused on the need for students to put themselves first, and how their actions in the final 12 weeks of school are critical for maximising their success in the Summer exams. The following images are the result of completing a task set by Mr Portman.

He asked students to imagine that they were 33 years old and that they were able to send a letter to themselves at the age of 15/16. ‘What advice would you give yourself for your final 12 weeks at Campsmount?’ The photos are 20 terrific examples taken from about 130 (written during the assembly – on students’ knees or chairs in front of them).

Press pause to manually control the slideshow.

STARGAZING Live @ Campsmount Technology College.

January 18, 2012 in Campsmount in Space, Design & Technology, Front Page News, STEM, STEM Campsmount in Space, Students by Mr S. P. Huntridge

On Thursday 19th January Campsmount S.T.E.M Club will be looking to the stars and with a powerful telescope to see what we can find. At the moment Jupiter and the Andromeda Galaxy are clearly visible on a clear night and make for simply stunning viewing. The pictures below have been taken through the telescope we will be using, click on them to make them bigger. Viewing it with the naked eye is an experience that will leave you speechless.

We will be running this from 6:30pm WEATHER PERMITTING till 7:15pm. If there is a thick covering of cloud or raining it will not be possible to view anything.

The telescope will be set up on the parish field and parents and students will be more than welcome to come along and have a look. If anyone has a telescope and wants to bring it along feel free to do so as guidance can be given on what to look at and how to set it up.

Mr S. P. Huntridge.

Campsmount Climbing Club.

January 11, 2012 in Community, Front Page News, Parents, Staff, Students, Uncategorized by Mr S. P. Huntridge

It’s a new term a this is a new start to Campsmount Climbing Club. We are looking for new students to join us in this exciting and challenging sport. It is open to any age group, girls, boys and staff. It is a great way to keep fit and build strength. You do not have to have any previous climbing experience and all the equipment is supplied by the centre.

We will be using the outstanding Leeds Wall as our indoor base and will be, in the summer months, taking some outdoor trips to various climbing locations.

This is an awesome sport and I am sure all involved will love it.

The dates we have booked are: 27th Feb, 12th / 26th March, 16th / 30th April. These are all on a Monday after school and we aim to get back to Campsmount for 7:00pm.

Please see Mr Gualda or Mr Huntridge for more details.

Campsmount in Space – S.T.E.M Club.

January 10, 2012 in Campsmount in Space, Design & Technology, Front Page News, STEM Campsmount in Space, Students by Mr S. P. Huntridge

At S.T.E.M club we have managed to perform a tethered launch using the weather balloon that we are planning to send up to near space, 100,000ft. We sent it up to about 200ft with twin lines holding it so we could safely test all the systems. The balloon and all the systems worked perfect as did the whole team with each member having their own specific and very important job to do. The GPS pinpointed where the system was using Google Maps and the video camera took some great quality video and stunning pictures which you can see below.

You can keep up to date with the project at:

http://www.campsmount.com/category/students/campsmount-in-space/

The project is open to all students and staff and we would love to see more pop along and join this exciting project.

Mr Huntridge and the S.T.E.M Team.
