National Writing Day

Today it is National Writing Day! This is the fourth annual celebration of the power of writing creatively, inspiring people of all ages and abilities to try writing for fun and self-expression. The Literacy Trust have put together a list of activities for both Primary and Secondary students to take part in to celebrate this important literary event!

Primary students:

  1. Make friends in lockdown #MyDearNewFriend.  This task encourages you to write letters to the elderly in care homes https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/mydearnewfriend/

  2. Write a poem about something you really love https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/9-12/write-poem-about-thing-you-really-love/

Secondary students:

  1. Keep a gratitude journal https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/zone-in/keep-gratitude-journal/
  2. Write about your lockdown experience https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/zone-in/write-about-your-lockdown-experience-poet-laila-sumpton/
  3. Write a comedy journal with BBC Comedy Classrooms https://literacytrust.org.uk/family-zone/zone-in/bbc-comedy-classroom/

You will also see attached to this post some really useful advice from author Cressida Cowell about how to get started when writing, her writing top tips and frequently asked questions about writing creatively.  You can also follow this link to learn more about Mark Haddon's 247 Challenge https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCjlzdJ3lao&feature=youtu.be

I hope you have a wonderful day celebrating the power of writing and we look forward to seeing your work. Please don't forget to send across your masterpieces!

Happy writing!
